Examine Me, O Lord
Psalm 26 starts with a bold request: “Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity… Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind.”
Most of us spend a lot of energy hiding our true thoughts from others. But David invites God to look deep inside. Why? Because integrity isn’t about being absolutely flawless; it’s about being authentic and undivided. It means your private life matches your public profession of faith.
The Company We Keep
David goes on to talk about the company he keeps. He avoids hypocrites and deceivers, choosing instead to surround himself with things that honor God.
This isn’t about being self-righteous or shutting out the world. It’s about recognizing that the voices we listen to the most will eventually shape the path we walk. We need a community of believers around us who encourage us to love God well and keep our steps aligned with His truth.
Standing on Level Ground
David ends the Psalm with a beautiful declaration of stability: “My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the Lord.”
When you live a life of secrecy or pretense, you always feel like you’re walking on an incline, waiting to slide backward. But living with transparency before God and your church family puts your feet on solid, level ground. You don’t have to fake it. You can stand tall, praise God, and walk forward in confidence.
Lord,
Search my heart and my mind today. Reveal any areas where I am living a double life or pretending to be something I’m not. Give me the courage to walk in honesty and integrity. Thank You for placing my feet on level ground through Your grace.
Amen.
