Search Me and Know Me
David begins this beautiful psalm by acknowledging God’s complete, absolute knowledge of him. God knows when we sit down, when we stand up, and what we are about to say before the words even form on our tongue. In a world where we often feel invisible or misunderstood, God looks at you with perfect clarity. He doesn’t just look at you; He looks into you and knows your true heart.
No Way to Outrun Presence
David wonders aloud if there is anywhere he can go to escape God’s Spirit. If he ascends to heaven, God is there. If he makes his bed in the depths, God is there. Even the darkest night is as bright as day to God. This isn’t about God acting like a cosmic cop trying to catch us doing something wrong; it’s the comforting reality that you can never wander outside of His reach or outrun His grace.
Masterfully Woven Together
Verses 13 and 14 contain some of the most comforting words in scripture: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” You are not an accident. Your personality, your quirks, and your unique design were intentionally woven together by the Creator of the universe.
O Lord,
You have searched me and known me. Thank You for loving me even in the spaces I try to hide. Thank You for knitting me together so intentionally and for calling me fearfully and wonderfully made. Search my heart today, renew my mind, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Amen.
