Lift Up Your Heads
David shifts gears into a massive, booming anthem of praise. “Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.”
Think about the things that cause your head to drop during the week. Disappointment, exhausting schedules, financial stress, or broken relationships. When pressure builds, our default is to look down at our problems. But God’s Word issues a command to our weary souls: Look up. The gates of your heart don’t have to stay closed and defensive.
Who Is This King?
David asks the question on all of our minds: “Who is this King of glory?” He answers with absolute certainty: “The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!”
We aren’t serving a distant, passive deity. We serve a King who fights for us. Whatever battle you are facing today—whether it’s an internal struggle with anxiety or an external trial—you aren’t fighting it in your own limited power. The Lord of hosts is leading the charge.
Opening the Ancient Doors
When we welcome the King of Glory into our daily mess, things change. The ancient doors of old habits, deep-seated fears, and past hurts have to give way to His presence. We don’t have to hide behind closed doors trying to fix ourselves before He arrives. We just open the gates and let Him do the heavy lifting.
King of Glory,
I lift my head to You today. I open the doors of my heart—even the messy, locked rooms I try to keep hidden. Come in and rule over my thoughts, my worries, and my victories. Thank You for being mighty in battle on my behalf.
Amen.
