This week in our Forged in Faith series through the Book of James, Pastor Joel unpacked a sobering truth — not all faith saves. In James 2:19, we read:
“You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder.”
That verse should stop us in our tracks. James reminds us that it’s possible to believe in God and still not know Him. Even the demons believe — they acknowledge God’s power, His truth, and His authority — and yet their belief produces fear, not faith.
This is what Pastor Joel called demonic faith: a belief rooted in knowledge and emotion, but not transformation. It’s knowing all the right verses, even feeling moved by worship, but never surrendering to Jesus as Lord. Real faith doesn’t just make us emotional — it makes us new.
Faith that saves is more than words or feelings; it’s trust that changes how we live. It’s daily discipline, not occasional inspiration. As Pastor Joel said, “Knowledge plus conviction plus commitment equals genuine faith.”
So, what does your faith look like?
Is it alive and active — or just informed and emotional?
Faith that trembles before God is not enough; it must also trust and obey. Because the only faith that saves is faith in Jesus alone — and only Jesus.
Lord Jesus,
I don’t want a faith that only speaks — I want a faith that lives.
Search my heart and show me where I’ve settled for words without obedience, or emotion without surrender.
Teach me to trust You completely, to love others deeply, and to follow You faithfully each day.
Let my life reflect a faith that’s alive — real, humble, and anchored in You alone.
Amen.
Take a moment to ask yourself — Does my faith move beyond belief into action?
